Dear litttle me,
I forgive you.
It was never your fault.
I forgive you for being so vulnerable.
I forgive you for being so frozen.
I forgive you for being so scared.
I forgive you for all the ways you tried to survive.
I forgive you for all the things you have done in order to survive.
Forgiving ourselves is one of the most important things survivors of childhood trauma can do.
Sometimes, some of us will blame ourselves for the way we were treated because otherwise the truth would be too unbearable. It was easier to believe that we were bad and that we must have deserved what we got than to believe our parents were bad people.
For me, I find it easier to direct my forgiveness at my inner child.
Is it possible that you need to forgive yourself too?
Please feel free to use what I wrote if you find it hard to find the words to forgive yourself.
